Emergency Dental Care Tips

October 3, 2013

Filed under: General DentistryMatt Mauck @ 2:11 pm

Dental emergencies are, simply put, frightening. You can never prepare for them because they often occur suddenly and by accident; even worse, no amount of brushing, flossing, or preventive dentistry care can prepare you for the damage they cause. The most important thing to remember, though, is not to panic. Here at D’Amico and Mauck, DDS in Aurora, our team is here to help. Here are some helpful tips from Dr. D’Amico and Dr. Mauck about what steps you should take in certain emergency dental situations:

Knocked Out Tooth

First, rinse the tooth very gently with water. Then, if feasible, place the tooth back into its original socket. If this is impossible, place it in a cup or baggie of milk instead and contact our office at once. Once you arrive, we’ll be able to assess whether we can successfully reattach the tooth.

Knocked Out Temporary Crown

You shouldn’t encounter this situation with us normally since we mainly offer one-visit crowns. However, if you’ve received a temporary crown from another dentist and can’t contact them, feel free to reach out to us! We’ll try our best to schedule a time for you to see us as soon as possible. In the meantime, try reattaching the crown with a small dab of toothpaste or dental wax to keep it in place.

Severe Toothache

First, try flossing and rinsing around the affected tooth; this should dislodge any food particles that might be causing the pain. If this doesn’t work, please contact us.

Severely Bleeding Lip/Broken Jaw

In these situations, please proceed straight to your nearest emergency room for treatment. These are extreme injuries and we want you to receive help as soon as possible!

Contact D’Amico and Mauck, DDS today to schedule an appointment! We welcome patients from all over the greater Denver area, including Aurora, Centennial, Englewood, Denver Tech Center, and beyond.

Keep Your Teeth Happy and Healthy with General Dentistry Care in Aurora, CO

September 23, 2013

When it comes to maintain optimal oral health, prevention is key – after all, isn’t it much easier to treat smaller problems instead of bigger ones? Thankfully, general dentistry care is an important cornerstone of our services here at D’Amico and Mauck, DDS. Whether you’re simply in search of a basic check-up in order to ensure that brushing and flossing is keeping your smile safe or suspect you may be suffering from a dental problem that needs attention, our Aurora team is here to help! Our general dentistry services include:

Check-Ups and Cleanings

During your appointment, Dr. D’Amico or Dr. Mauck will be sure to thoroughly inspect your gums and each of your gums, searching for any hints of decay or damage that could require treatment. Afterwards, you’ll receive an effective cleaning from one of our skilled hygienists. Our preventive care isn’t just for adults, either – we’re happy to treat smiles of all shapes and sizes!

Periodontal Care

If we happen to discover evidence of periodontal disease during your check-up, don’t worry – we offer personalized therapy in order to combat this common condition. While periodontal disease starts off relatively harmless, it can progress to a more destructive stage very quickly, which is why it’s crucial to seek treatment as soon as possible.

TMJ Protection

If you’ve experienced serious pain in your upper body or have noticed that your teeth appear worn down, you may have bruxism (teeth grinding) to blame. Our team will happy to create a custom intraoral appliance, such as a nightguard, to help alleviate pain and protect your smile from damage.

Contact our Aurora office today to schedule an appointment! Our dedicated team can’t wait to give you and your whole family a reason to smile. We also serve the areas of Centennial, Englewood, Denver Tech Center, and beyond.

Learn the Critical Differences between Available Teeth Whitening Treatments from Drs. D’Amico and Mauck

September 16, 2013

When asked what they would most like to change about their smiles, many patients will immediately say that they wish it were whiter. After all, a beautifully bright smile can be a valuable asset in professional and social settings, implying success, attractiveness, confidence, and much more. Sadly, no matter how well some of us practice our oral hygiene routines, age, genetics, and even certain medications can turn our pearly whites into anything but.  When that happens, you may find yourself reaching for that over-the-counter product that promises dramatic results for little cost. But how do you know whether it’s really superior when compared to customized teeth whitening treatment from your local Aurora, CO dental office? Here are some helpful comparisons from Drs. D’Amico and Mauck:

Effectiveness

While whitening your teeth just one or two shades may be a task that over-the-counter teeth whitening products can handle, dramatic transformations will be far and far between when it comes to such low-power solutions. Drs. D’Amico and Mauck provide a much higher-grade treatment for their take-home teeth whitening treatment that’s sure to leave patients with beautifully stunning results in as little as a couple of weeks!

Personalization

Due to their need for a mass appeal, over the counter whitening kits are designed as a one-size-fits-all solution, which may work for some patients’ needs but not all. When you come into our Aurora office, your treatment will be completely personalized to fit your unique needs and desires, resulting in an outstanding experience every time.  Plus, if you encounter any issues, all you need to do is call our team and let us know; we’ll do whatever we can to help you feel at ease again.

Cost

While it is true that over-the-counter treatments tend to cost less than professional-grade teeth whitening, the comparisons listed above clearly show the value in pursuing our at-home solution. Plus, our Whitening for Life program ensures that you’ll receive free whitening gel at no extra change whenever you come in for regular appointments – all for a one-time fee of $200!

Contact D’Amico and Mauck, DDS today to learn more about at-home teeth whitening treatment and the Whitening for Life program, or if you’re ready to schedule an appointment. Our team can’t wait to help you feel more confident in your smile! We serve the areas of Aurora, Centennial, Englewood, Parker, Denver Tech Center, and beyond.

However, sometimes patients are facing so many problems – cracks, stains, and misalignments, to name a few – that the dental work needed can seem truly overwhelming. After only two appointments, our Aurora, CO team promises that this transformative cosmetic procedure will help your smile stand out in the best way possible.

What are porcelain veneers?

Veneers are wafer-thin pieces of dental porcelain that are bonded directly to the front teeth. Better yet, they’re designed specifically to fit each patient’s unique features and desires. Porcelain veneers have several benefits, including:

  • They’re virtually undetectable to your peers

Banish Bad Breath with These Helpful Hints from Drs. D’Amico and Mauck

June 25, 2013

Bad breath (also commonly referred to as halitosis) is embarrassing. It can cause you embarrassment and humiliation in social settings, not to mention the power it has to negatively impact your professional life. Even worse is the fact that experiencing chronic bad breath can be a sign of more serious health problems. If you find your self-confidence hindered by bad breath, come in to D’Amico and Mauck, DDS in Aurora – our team will be happy to help you find the cause of your condition and provide the dedicated, personalized care you need to face the world with a big smile again. In the meantime, here are some helpful tips that you should keep in mind:

  • The most common cause of bad breath is simple enough: poor dental hygiene, especially where the tongue is concerned. The tongue provides a comfortable home for all kinds of bacteria, and if you rarely clean that far back in your mouth, it can cause problems. Cleaning and flossing regularly, as well as paying special attention to that area, should help alleviate bad breath.
  • Additionally, certain illnesses and problems can cause bad breath as well, including cavities, gum disease, lung disease, dry mouth, gastrointestinal issues, diabetes, and liver problems. Patients who suffer from one or more of these problems should pay extra close attention to the state of their breath.
  • Thinking about investing in mouthwash or mints in order to solve the problem? While these tools may provide a temporary cover-up, they shouldn’t be relied on as a solution.
  • Do you experience bad breath only once in a while? No problem. But if this is a chronic issue that plagues you daily, please visit Dr. D’Amico and Dr. Mauck soon so that we can determine if a deeper problem is occurring.

Don’t let bad breath keep chipping away at your confidence – instead, contact our Aurora, CO office today to schedule an appointment! We welcome patients from all over the Denver area, including Centennial, Eaglewood, Parker, and beyond.

June 18, 2013

When it comes to dental care, you’re surely familiar with the common areas of treatments, such as teeth and gums – but did you know that some of the most debilitating oral problems are directly related to your temporomandibular joints? Commonly referred to as TMJs, these joints are small, but they serve a crucial purpose by keeping your lower jaw connected to your skull. Additionally, they contain important pieces of your body, such as blood vessels and nerves. However, this means that when these joints are even slightly misaligned in any way, annoying and even outright painful symptoms can set in quickly, affecting not just your teeth but your entire body. Thankfully, the dedicated team at D’Amico and Mauck, DDS takes the threat of TMJ dysfunction very seriously; that’s why they provide custom-made nightguards to patients all over the Aurora, CO area and beyond.

How do I know if I have TMJ dysfunction?

  • Popping, clicking, or stiffness that concerns the jaw
  • Problems with opening and closing the mouth

If these sound familiar, don’t hesitate to contact Dr. D’Amico and Dr. Mauck as soon as possible to schedule a thorough examination. There, our team will check the state of your bite and teeth to determine if you’re suffering from TMJ dysfunction. Keep Your Smile Safe from Oral Cancer

May 13, 2013

Filed under: UncategorizedMatt Mauck @ 1:41 pm

When it comes to maintaining optimal oral health, most people tend to keep an eye on potential signs of problems like cavities, TMJ disorder, or gum disease. Have you ever stopped and wondered if you could be suffering from oral cancer, though? While oral cancer isn’t as well-known as some of the other dental conditions, the numbers associated it with are frightening – in fact, one American every hour dies from the disease. Additionally, tens of thousands of people will be diagnosed with this year, and only half of them will go on to survive more than five years. Don’t panic just yet, though! If oral cancer is caught early on, the chances of successful treatment are raised significantly, so don’t waste time. At D’Amico and Mauck, DDS in Aurora, CO, we take the threat of oral cancer very seriously, and we’ll make sure to look for any signs of it each and every time you come in to see us.

How do I know if I have oral cancer?

If you find yourself unable to come into our office for a while, here are some common symptoms that you can look for at home:

  • A sore in the mouth that bleeds easily and doesn’t show signs of healing.
  • A flat, red or white, painless sore in the mouth
  • The oral tissues changing color
  • A lump, thick sport, or rough area in the mouth
  • Lingering pain, numbness, or tenderness that happens in the mouth or lips

However, keep in mind that Dr. D’Amico and Dr. Mauck should be your first line of defense against oral cancer. By attending regular check-ups every six months, our team will have an opportunity to thoroughly inspect your mouth and take note of any areas that seem suspicious.

While oral cancer often occurs in patients who use tobacco and/or alcohol, it’s important to remember that nearly a fourth of affected patients never participated in any known risk factors. Our team is dedicated to helping you maintain your oral health and keeping your smile strong. Contact our Aurora office today to schedule an appointment. We welcome patients from the greater Denver area, including Centennial, Eaglewood, and Parker.

Revitalize Your Smile with the Help of Dental Implants in Aurora, CO

May 3, 2013

When it comes to tooth loss, dentists can offer patients a variety of restorative options, including dentures, partials, or bridges. While these tools may meet the needs of some patients, others find themselves wishing for a more natural, long-lasting solution that can make their smile look and feel as good as it did before their dental problems. While our team at D’Amico and Mauck, DDS can’t turn back the clock, we can give you the next best solution: dental implants. A relatively new procedure in the world of restorative dentistry, dental implants can offer newfound stability, comfort, and beauty to the smiles of our patients in Aurora, CO and beyond!

What exactly are dental implants?

While other tooth replacement options rest on top of the gums and only restore the crown of the tooth, dental implants take your oral health a step further by replicating the entire structure, including the root. First, a trusted oral surgeon will place a titanium post into the empty socket. Then, once an appropriate amount of time has passed for the post to integrate with your jawbone, you’ll come in to see Drs. D’Amico and Mauck at our Aurora office, where we’ll attach a beautiful, custom-made crown to the implant, completing your brand-new look.

Dental implants have several benefits over more traditional restorative treatments, such as:

  • Bone deterioration often occurs in the jaw when teeth are lost. Dental implants are the only tooth replacement solution that integrates with the jawbone, sustaining and even regenerating tissue.
  • They offer a way to rebuild your smile without having to sacrifice the health of your remaining teeth.
  • They’re much more sturdy and comfortable, not to mention seamless!

Don’t leave tooth loss untreated – call our dedicated team at D’Amico and Mauck, DDS today if you have any questions about dental implants, or if you’re ready to schedule an appointment. Dr. D’Amico and Dr. Mauck will be happy to sit down with you and discuss the unique benefits of all our restorative dentistry options in order to find the one that fits your unique goals best. We welcome patients from all over the greatest Denver area, including Centennial, Eaglewood, and Parker.
