Why You Won’t Regret Getting a Root Canal

For some reason, root canals have a reputation as being the most unpleasant dental procedures there are. That may be why people tend to cringe when their dentist tells them they might need one. Some even go so far as to ignore their dentist’s advice and not get the procedure at all.

There’s no reason for that! If you take your dentist’s advice and get the root canal, you definitely won’t regret it. Here are a few reasons why.

It’s Painless

Once upon a time, root canals were deeply painful, which may be why so many people dread them. That said, in recent years, anesthetics have advanced incredibly. Not only will your root canal be painless, but your dentist will be able to numb your mouth so effectively that you probably won’t feel anything at all.

To be frank, there are hardly any modern dental procedures that involve pain. You shouldn’t let fear of any discomfort deter you from getting the treatment you need.

It’ll Cure Your Toothache

If your dentist is recommending you get a root canal, it’s probably because you have a fairly advanced infection that has infiltrated inside the tooth. That means a serious toothache and pretty severe discomfort. Getting a root canal will remove the infection inside the tooth, which will lessen the amount of pain that you’re in.

It’s Potentially Necessary

As was mentioned, root canals are frequently a response to a severe infection. While root canals aren’t uncomfortable, they are a little bit complicated to perform; your dentist wouldn’t recommend one unless it was truly necessary.

Gum disease that has progressed that far into the tooth isn’t going to go away on its own. It will only get worse, with the end result likely being the tooth falling out. In fact, most root canal patients only have one other option: extraction. In many cases, a root canal is the only reliable way to save a tooth that is otherwise beyond help.

As you can see, root canals aren’t nearly as scary as they’re made out to be. If your dentist recommends one for you, you can feel confident in the fact that you won’t regret getting it.
